Michelle Lo

ND, MDiv, RP • Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist • Clinical Supervisor

About my work...

I work with couples, families, and individuals experiencing relationship distress or seeking deeper connection.

I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and life stages.

One of the approaches I am passionate about is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Over the years, I have seen how transformative this model can be for both individuals and couples who find themselves feeling stuck in the same painful patterns, arguments, or emotional struggles.

Often, the problem isn't the issue itself—it's the cycle that develops around it. Couples can find themselves caught in a negative dance where one partner pursues, the other withdraws, and both end up feeling misunderstood, disconnected, and alone. Individuals can experience similar internal cycles, becoming trapped in patterns of self-criticism, anxiety, avoidance, or emotional overwhelm.

What I love about EFT is that it offers a clear roadmap for understanding these cycles and creating lasting change. Rather than focusing on blame, we work together to identify the deeper emotions and unmet needs that are driving the pattern. Once we can see the cycle, we can begin to change it.

I am continually inspired by how EFT helps people move from disconnection to connection, from reactivity to understanding, and from feeling stuck to feeling hopeful. Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, my role is to guide you through this process with compassion and clarity, helping you learn a new dance—one that fosters greater security, emotional safety, and deeper connection with yourself and the people you love.

You don't have to stay trapped in the same cycle. There is a path forward, and I would be honoured to help you find it.

Clinical Supervision for Therapists

I also provide clinical supervision for therapists seeking support in their professional growth and development.

I draw on my vast and varied clinical experiences and help clinicians deepen their confidence, strengthen their skills, and navigate clinical challenges in a supportive environment.

Whether you are a student, qualifying therapist, or experienced clinician, I welcome the opportunity to support your journey as a therapist.

A note on what makes this work:

Therapy works best when we're both in it. So in addition to what I bring, I'll ask you to:

  • Show up especially when it's hard.  Some of the most useful sessions are the ones you almost cancelled.

  • Stay curious about your own patterns.  Including the ones you've been hoping were someone else's fault.

  • Bring up what's hard with me, too.  If something I said landed wrong or a session felt off, tell me. Repair in the room is part of the work.

The more honest we can be together, the more therapy can do.

Beyond the office

I'm raising two energetic boys, which means most days I'm doing the work I help my clients with in real time, and often imperfectly. There's no better place to learn what co-regulation actually requires, what a rupture-and-repair really looks like before bedtime, or how much our anxieties quietly leak onto the people we love. Parenting has been the most humbling clinical training I've had, and it's where my trust in this framework was earned rather than borrowed.

When I'm not in session, you'll often find me tending to my garden or baking. Both teach the same lesson in different forms: slow down, pay attention, and trust that careful tending eventually shows its work. The patience a garden or bread requires is the same patience I try to bring into the room with you.
